A common mistake one sees in various commentaries and other texts is that there is some vast and mysterious difference between a "prophet" and a "prophetess". One is the real thing and the other is something....less. Sometimes it is even assumed they are merely the wife of a prophet with out having any basis for the assumptions. Strong's Concordance is a fault in this as one of the most accessible and least costly resources - but also one of the oldest....and not in a good sense. Written in 1890 the source carries many of the biases and assumptions (or presuppositions) of that day regarding a great many things. These all color the choices of definitions and text in the book. There is no major difference between the two terms. One refers to a woman and one to a man. It is similar to the way we use the terms "actor" and "actress" . Both do the same task and the only difference is a convention that identifies their gender. The same is true of the terms "prophet" and "prophetess".
